The Pusaka Difference
What You Gain When
Your Watch Comes to Us
There are many places in Kuala Lumpur that will open a watch and change a battery. What we offer is a different kind of engagement — one suited to mechanical timepieces and the people who value them.

Six Reasons Collectors Choose Pusaka Horology
Expertise in Mechanical Calibres
Our watchmaker's background spans Swiss and Japanese movements across fifteen-plus years. We work with manual-wind, automatic, and vintage calibres — not as a general repair shop, but as specialists.
Written Assessment Before You Commit
We document the condition of your watch and outline the proposed scope before any work begins. You decide whether to proceed with full information, not after the fact.
Conservative Approach to Restoration
We do not refinish, replace, or alter beyond what is necessary. Original parts, original surfaces, original character — these are preserved wherever the condition allows.
Photographic Documentation
Collector-level work is photographed at each stage. The images and written record belong to you — a genuine addition to the provenance history of the piece.
Professional Timing Verification
All serviced movements are tested on calibrated timegrapher equipment across multiple positions over several days. You receive actual performance figures, not a verbal assurance.
Consistent Communication
We contact you at meaningful stages — assessment completion, any unexpected findings, and when the watch is ready. You should not need to follow up repeatedly for a status update.
In More Detail
What Each Advantage Means in Practice
Professional Expertise
The watchmaker leading our bench trained within brand-authorised service departments and subsequently with independent masters in KL and Singapore. This background means familiarity with calibre-specific service intervals, documented wear patterns, and the difference between what a factory manual specifies and what a particular movement actually needs after decades of wear.
- Swiss lever-set and cylinder escapements
- Column-wheel and cam-actuated chronograph mechanisms
- Early automatic rotor and bumper calibres
Tools & Equipment
The workshop is equipped with ultrasonic cleaning systems, a calibrated timegrapher with multi-position and amplitude display, water resistance test equipment, and magnification tools appropriate for the scale of movement work. We do not substitute consumer-grade tools for professional horological instruments.
- Timegrapher with amplitude and beat error display
- Ultrasonic cleaning with appropriate solutions per material
- Stereo microscope for dial and hand inspection
Client Engagement
We do not operate a drop-off counter where a ticket is handed over and a watch disappears for six months. Every service begins with a conversation, in person where possible. We want to understand what the watch means to its owner, how it has been worn, and what the owner's intention is — whether that is returning it to service, preparing it for sale, or simply honouring a service interval.
Transparent Pricing
Service pricing is published — movement servicing from MYR 950, case refinishing from MYR 1,450, vintage stewardship from MYR 2,180. Final figures depend on calibre complexity and parts requirements, and are confirmed in writing before work begins. There are no charges added without discussion.
Comparing Approaches
What Differentiates a Specialist Workshop
The comparison below reflects common differences between general watch repair shops and a dedicated horological workshop. No specific providers are referenced.
| Service Aspect | General Repair Shops | Pusaka Horology |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-service condition assessment | Rarely provided in writing | Written document before work |
| Calibre-matched lubrication | Often a single oil grade | Oil selected per component type |
| Multi-day timing verification | Single-position check common | Multi-position, multi-day test |
| Originality preserved on vintage pieces | Refinishing often default | Conservation is the default |
| Photographic documentation of work | Not standard practice | Included for collector services |
| Specialist vintage parts sourcing | Non-original substitution common | Period-correct sourcing prioritised |
What Sets Us Apart
Distinctive Aspects of Our Practice
The Condition Dossier
For vintage and collector work, we produce a written dossier that accompanies the returned watch. This includes pre-service photographs, a description of the movement's condition at intake, parts replaced or sourced, and the regulation results achieved. Most workshops do not produce this. For a piece of long-term value, it matters.
We Work on a Limited Number of Pieces
By design, Pusaka Horology does not take on more work than can be given proper attention. This means waitlists at certain times, but it also means your watch is not sitting in a queue of fifty being rushed through. Each piece receives focused time on the bench.
No Obligation in the Consultation
Bringing a watch in for assessment carries no obligation to proceed. We assess, report, and advise — the decision is yours. If you choose not to proceed after the assessment, we return the watch as received at no charge.
Worn Parts Returned to Owner
If components are replaced during a service, the original worn parts are kept separately and returned to you along with the watch. Many owners — particularly of vintage pieces — wish to retain original components even if they can no longer perform their function.
